2016 in Photographs

This entire year has felt like an utter shock for the whole world. Violence pervaded the streets of Syria and struck, very suddenly, on cities we thought were immune like Orlando, Paris, Berlin, and Brussels. We witnessed political upheaval in the United States as all polls and predictions were defied with the election of Donald Trump. Britain voted to leave the European Union, in a move that surprised nearly everyone. We lost iconic artists like Prince, David Bowie, and Bill Cunningham that gifted us with their talent before they were taken too soon. Despite the chaos and pain, there was goodness and laughter as well. The Cubs won the World Series after 108 years. Families were reunited in Cuba. People helped one another in times of distress. And all these beautiful, some melancholy, photographs were taken by very talented people. This is the New York Times’ “The Year in Pictures 2016” year wrap-up: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/12/22/sunday-review/2016-year-in-pictures.html?_r=0 . Warning: some of the pictures include violent images.
