Fifth Annual Encinitas Sprint Triathlon

The fifth annual Encinitas Sprint Triathlon is taking place this Saturday! It is taking place at Moonlight Beach and is going to be an exciting event for both participants and spectators. There will be food, drinks, live music, and raffle prizes on top of the awesome races taking place. If you are interested in running, you need to hurry up and sign up!

There are three categories: sprint, super sprint, and beach duathlon. The sprint option is the most grueling and intended for race veterans. It includes a 750 meter swim, a 20 kilometer bike ride, and a 5 kilometer run! The super sprint is a bit lighter and consists of a 10 kilometer bike ride, a 375 meter swim, and a 2.5 kilometer run. The beach duathlon involves only running and biking and is the lightest category. Anyone over the age of twelve can participate in all events, but it is recommended that you be physically fit before doing so. There will be water and sports drinks provided as well as emergency medical staff and bathrooms. If you are planning on swimming, you may arrange to use a swim buddy or a swim aid. The swim area will be intensely guarded by the best Encinitas lifeguards and the race organizers even offer swim clinics for beginner ocean swimmers! There are a few guidelines and rules that must be observed which can be found on the official website for the Encinitas Sprint Triathlon.  Also, all participants receive a cool Encinitas Sprint Triathlon T shirt!

Even if you are not racing, do not hesitate to come out and watch! It is an awesome opportunity to get out of your Encinitas home and have some fun! There will be an after race party with an exciting awards ceremony and some really good live music. Check it out! You might even start planning how you will go about training for next year’s triathlon!
