Believe In She Helps Girls in Encinitas

As an Encinitas Realtor I feel that one of my responsibilities is to inform current and potential residents of what Encinitas has to offer. An Encinitas Realtor should not only help you find a home in Encinitas but help you make it feel like home too. Today I wanted to let you know about a relatively new program in Encinitas and La Jolla that was started to help young girls with body-image and self-esteem issues.

Believe in She, a program founded by local resident Jamie Dicken, works to help young girls in the “tween” age-range to build confidence regarding their body-image through yoga, journaling, conversations, and art projects. Dicken began the program about two years ago after learning that not only does a girl’s self-confidence peak at the age of 9, but that it also drops precipitously in the following years. Add to that the fact that 81% of girls age 10 are fearful of becoming fat and Dicken knew something had to be done.

The Believe in She program seeks to empower girls from age 8 to 13 through an 8-week course that combines 45 minutes of yoga, 30 minutes of journaling or open conversation, and 15 minutes of cooking or an art project. Young girls are paired up with their mothers for the class and since 2010 over 200 mothers and daughters have participated in the program. Through yoga and journaling, Believe in She empowers young girls and helps them build inner-strength.
