New Bike Lane Markings on Coast Hwy in Encinitas

One of the best parts of owning Encinitas real estate is that the city is very friendly to alternate modes of transportation. As an owner of Encinitas real estate you can get around easily using a bicycle, which not only helps the environment but will help you stay in shape as well. A recent meeting of the Encinitas City Council will create a road diet as well as install more bike lanes.

Coast Highway 101 will be seeing some changes including the addition of shared lane markings – or sharrows – so that bicyclists can use the full lanes to be posted between K Street and La Costa Avenue.

The other change to Coast Highway 101 is a road diet and installation of a class II bike lane northbound between Leucadia Boulevard and La Costa Avenue. The main inclusions of the road diet are:

  • A striping plan to merge northbound traffic lanes from two lanes to one going north of the signalized intersection of Leucadia Boulevard.
  • One lane will be used to moderate the flow of traffic and speed while having a dedicated bike lane.
  • A single lane will become two lanes prior to the signalized intersection at La Costa Avenue.

The cost of implementing this road diet will be minimal as no actual physical improvements are being made to the road, only additional striping and painting.

This will be a great addition to Encinitas, and as an Encinitas Realtor and resident I look forward to taking advantage of this new opportunity.
