Busy Weekend Full of Events in Encinitas

Encinitas’ basket of entertainment choices is overflowing this weekend! If you are looking for a variety of things to do this weekend San Diego County is the place to be. Whether its comedy, music under the stars or live sports action you’ll have plenty of reasons to be out of your Encinitas home and enjoy all of the areas best offerings!

Music aficionados are in for a real at treat as the world famous Dave Matthews Band kicks it all off this evening at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheater at 7:30 pm. If you have never been to see DMB live there is a electrifying bolt of energy in store for you as his audiences are know for dancing and and singing to the music without missing a beat! If you are craving a laugh coupled with a reality check then the place to be tonight is Humphreys Concerts by the bay to spend an evening with Bill Maher. His brand of politically infused social satire has altered the state of our collective consciousness and caused many people to think about their place in America in a both witty and introspective way. Showtime for this performance is 8:00 pm. Those who have been crying Wolfmother need not wait any longer! Wolfmother’s indie rock sound traveled to the US in 2000 from Australia, where the band was formed. In 2007 the band received it’s first Grammy award for best Hard Rock Performance. This not to be missed show takes place Saturday August 21st at 9:00 pm at the House of Blues in San Diego. Two other great shows round out the weekends concert menu on Sunday taking us back to the 1980’s Cyndi Lauper has proven that girls who want have fun can do so for decades and continue to evolve artistically and delight audiences along the way. Her latest album, entitled “Memphis Blues” is a gritty throwback to the blues era and features her unique take on many classic songs. The album, recorded earlier this year, features appearances by such great artists as B.B. King, Johnny Lang, Allen Toussaint, Ann Peebles and Charlie Musselwhite. Cyndi brings the tour to to the aptly named House of Blues on Sunday August 22nd at 7:00 pm.

Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, over at Humphreys concerts by the bay, you can enjoy the mellow sounds of Crowded House. This late 1980’s alternative band skyrocketed to the top of the charts with timeless classics like “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Something So Strong.” After a series of reunion concerts the band returned to the studio and is now touring with original band members Neil and Tim Finn in support of their second post reunion album, released this June, entitled “Intriguer”. If you find yourself intrigued by the prospect of checking out their new material and reliving a part of your past, this is the perfect show for you. Humphreys Concerts by the bay boasts an on site restaurant to add a culinary experience to your pre-show plans. Showtime for Crowded House is 7:30 pm.

A perfect family outing coupled with over 20 Bluegrass performances would be a trip to the 8th Annual Summergrass San Diego Bluegrass Festival. In addition to the international line up of artists, the festival included music workshops, impromptu jam sessions, vendors, special kid’s activities featuring a Kid’s Music camp, tasty food, plenty of on-site dry camping. If being thrilled by world class body surfers is more your style then you should catch a wave and ride it to Oceanside Pier The 33rd annual Wold Body Surfing tour featuring world class contestants is taking place Saturday August 21st and Sunday August 22nd. Heats begin at 6:30 am each morning with the presentation of awards on Sunday at 1:50 pm. This is the perfect way to get out of your Encinitas home and begin the day with an exciting start!
