Why Choose Encinitas?

The Surfing

A beach community since the ‘60s, Encinitas has a long history of surfing. From Swami Beach- made famous by the Beach Boys- to all the surf shops on Pacific Coast Hwy, you can’t help but notice the laid-back, friendly vibe that makes this area so desirable. Encinitas has made it onto National Geographic’s World’s 20 Best Surf Towns for a reason; if you’ve never surfed before, Leucadia Surf School has offered great beginner’s lessons for years.

The Arts

Encinitas has the second highest concentration of artists in the San Diego area, and it shows: this city is home to many fantastic art organizations, galleries, outdoor murals, performing arts events, and hosts even more local shops filled with handmade clothing and art. Another local favorite is the historic La Paloma Theatre, which has been an Encinitas landmark for over 80 years and still shows classic and indie movies.

The Health Scene

Yoga guru Tim Miller started practicing here in the late ‘70s, and it was here that the vinyasa yoga style started to gain traction. Today, there are numerous yoga centers to be found in Encinitas, and both locals and tourists visit the Self Realization Fellowship Ashram Center that was founded in 1937 by famous yogi Paramahansa Yogananda.

You’ll find that many Encinitas residents value staying in shape through biking, swimming, and running. It’s a great place to train for a triathlon or stay active outdoors. In fact, Second Street has earned the nickname of “Healing Street” because of all the health practitioners it houses. There are also quite a few highly-rated spas in the area for further relaxation.

The Nature

Encinitas is also a wonderful place to live in a purely visual sense: think scenic rolling hills, palm trees, a clean coastline, and the scent of jasmine. In fact, Encinitas has been known as the flower capital of the world since the 1920s. Check out the San Diego Botanic Gardens, the Meditation Gardens, or the Torrey Pines State Reserve for beautiful views.
