Wednesday, 12/9

Handmade Holidays: Custom Wooden Ornaments, 9am-12pm. Lux Art Institute, 1578 South El Camino Real. $35, $50 Stamp, paint, bedazzle, and bejewel your own set of three wooden ornaments to adorn your holiday tree, gifts, or just to spruce up your home. Info: www.luxartinstitute.org

Free Wednesdays@Noon: Michael Sanders on piano, 12-12:45pm. Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive. A graduate of USC with degrees in piano, accompanying and composition, Michael will perform Bach’s inventions and sinfonias, Beethoven’s beloved “Appassionata” sonata and works by three composers of the early Twentieth Century: Bela Bartók, Felix Blumenfeld and Leonard Bernstein. Thursday, 12/10

Free Party with a Purpose, 6-8pm. Art N Soul on 101, 633 S Coast Hwy 101. We are accepting donations of socks and lap blankets to help the homeless and needy seniors. Enjoy wine and light snacks. Info: www.ArtNSoulon101.com

Saturday, 12/12

Handmade Holidays: Block Printing on Fabric, 9am-12pm. Lux Art Institute, 1578 South El Camino Real. Make your own pattern using easy to cut linoleum and print your unique design on a set of tea towels. For all ages. Info: www.luxartinstitute.org

Holiday Book Sale, 9:30am-3:00pm. Cardiff Library, 2081 Newcastle Avenue. The Friends of the Cardiff Library are having a massive holiday book sale with special homemade baked goods, coffee and tea, water and juice, and all books, collectibles, as well as media, games, and puzzles are half off the marked price. Free Holiday Wreath Making, 10am-2pm. San Diego Botanic Garden. 230 Quail Gardens Drive. Students will build a beautiful full-sized, mixed-greens wreath to decorate their homes for the holidays. Info: http://www.sdbgarden.org/classes.htm

Concert: North Coast Symphony, Holiday Cabaret II,  3pm. Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive. $10, $8, $25/family, tickets at the door. The program will include music from around the world: “Hebrides Overture, Opus 26” by Felix Mendelssohn, “Around the World at Christmas Time” arranged by Bruce Chase, “A Canadian Brass Christmas” arranged by Luther Henderson, “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed and more.
