San Diego Restaurant Week Report

It is time for San Diego Restaurant Week and all the restaurants in San Diego and the surrounding cities are already underway offering deals for hungry customers! This is an excellent chance to get out to eat at some of the wonderful restaurants in San Diego County with restaurants in Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Del Mar, and San Diego joining in on the action. San Diego Restaurant Week started yesterday January 23, 2011 and runs throughout the week until January 28, 2010. So now is the time to get out to some of the finest restaurants in San Diego for some great food at discounted prices specifically for San Diego Restaurant Week!

This is the seventh year for San Diego Restaurant Week, and is the largest dining event in all San Diego County. Twice every year, over 160 restaurants in San Diego feature a variety of three course meals at discounted package prices of $20, $30, or $40. This is not like a street fair where you need a ticket to get in. Simply visit the website for San Diego Restaurant Week, search through the available restaurants and find the restaurant in San Diego and the meal deal that appeals to you.

San Diego Restaurant Week is part of a larger focus on restaurants in California called California Restaurant Month, and is organized by the California Restaurant Association San Diego Chapter. They have done all the hard work in finding participating restaurants in San Diego and coordinating which meals will be a part of each of the 3 meal deal options. All the restaurants participating in San Diego Restaurant Week are all honoring the 3 meal options throughout the week, but it is recommended that you make reservations to the restaurant of your choice as this is an extremely popular event throughout the week!

What makes this year special is that San Diego Restaurant Week is pairing with the Educational Committee of the San Diego Chapter of the California Restaurant Association to help raise money for education programs all across San Diego County. There are some plans in the works to use the funds raised to help encourage school run activities related to establishing culinary skills. The committee plans on helping supply aprons for San Diego Unified High School culinary programs, build and maintain organic gardens at some schools in the area, provide funding for field trips to restaurants, kitchens and organic gardens, scholarships in schools offering hospitality programs to San Diego high school students, and to sponsor gifted students in the San Diego Teen Iron Chef Competition and the ProStart Competition. It is good to see that proceeds of this popular and well loved event will be going towards a multitude of good causes this year!
