Small Business Saturday in Encinitas

Founded in 2010 by American Express, Small Business Saturday has become a great way for small businesses in Encinitas to get exposure during the holiday shopping season. In 2011 more than 100 million people participated in Small Business Saturday in the United States, helping to support small businesses in Encinitas.

Whereas retail stores have significant advertising, discounted prices for doorbuster items, and extended hours to accomodate their customers on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday offers a low-key alternative to the occasional madness of Black Friday.

American Express has provided on its webiste a map of qualifying merchants that are participating in the Shop Small program, with everything from dining, shopping, and entertainment businesses providing some special offers. Here are some of the local businesses in Encinitas that you can patronize this Saturday:

Life AsRx

This business was originally founded in Hawaii but now has stores throughout the United States, specifically in Southern California. Life AsRX (Life As Prescribed) features men’s and women’s activewear and other various types of apparel designed for those that see fitness as a sport.

The Outgrown Shop

This is a great store on Highway 101 in Downtown Encinitas that buys and sells children’s clothing, toys, furniture, and accessories. They also provide rentals on certain items and classes such as the Music Together Demonstration for musical development in a non-performance program.
