New Dog Necessities

As you’re thinking about this weekend’s Coldwell Banker Homes for Dogs Project, think about the items that you’re going to need to prepare for your new pup. Consider the size of the dog that you may be thinking about: do you want a larger dog like golden retriever or a smaller Yorkshire terrier dog? Their hair length will also determine what kind of brushes or cleaning supplies you’ll need to purchase.

If you want to thoroughly plan ahead and get a vision of the dog you want to adopt, head over to the website of Coldwell Banker’s Homes for Dogs partners: Adopt-a-Pet.com and Rancho Coastal Humane Society. They have potential dogs available for adoption and what dates they’ll be available this weekend. Maybe you’ll see one of the furry friends and it’ll be love at first site.

On Adopt-a-Pet, you can either search by your location or by the shelter/rescue. You can look up the breed, the sex, age, to even color and size. The Rancho Costal Humane Society allows you to adopt through their pets by animal and gives you options to donate and volunteer, as well.

As you prepare to shop for your pet, here are some of the necessities to consider purchasing for your new friend:

  • Food and water bowls
  • Food (canned/dry)
  • Collar
  • 4- to 6-foot leash
  • ID tag with your phone number
  • Plastic carrier or metal crate*
  • Dog bed
  • Doggy shampoo and conditioner*
  • Nail clippers
  • Canine toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Brush or comb*
  • Absorbent paper towels
  • Sponge or scrub brush
  • Non-toxic cleanser
  • Enzymatic odor neutralizer
  • Plastic waste baggies or waste scooper
  • Absorbent house training pads
  • Toys
  • Treats
  • First aid supplies
  • Baby gates

*may depend on size/type of pup

If you are unable to purchase a new pal at this time, there are many other ways you can help Coldwell Banker for their mission. Shelters constantly need supplies and Coldwell Banker is accepting donations.

They will be accepting donations to their office this entire week until September 9th at 740 Garden View Ct., Suite 100, Encinitas CA. On September 9th, the donations will be collected at Rancho Coastal Humane Society at 389 Requeza St., Encinitas CA. That way, you can hop in at the Humane Society and make sure you don’t want a friend!
