Encinitas 2nd Lowest Obesity Rate

As an Encinitas Realtor I have reported on some of the great programs Encinitas has to fight childhood obesity. On my Encinitas Realtor blog I have posted about the Believe in She program and the Healthy Kids Day event and, according to a recent study, these programs are paying off for children in Encinitas.

In a study conducted by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research and the California Center for Public Health Advocacy, Encinitas was found to have the second lowest childhood obesity rate in San Diego County and ranked well below the state. Only 18.5% of children in Encinitas fall into the overweight or obese category; comparatively the rate for San Diego County is 34.5% and the rate in the state of California is 38%.

Large discrepancies exist throughout the county in terms of obesity rates, as 50% of the children in National City fall into the obese or overweight category with only 16.8% of children in Carlsbad having been found to fall into the category.

With this study come not only policy recommendations to improve school conditions, but also suggestions on removing foods and beverages that are high in fat, sugar, and calories in school districts. You can also get your children involved in some of the great programs in Encinitas that help children learn about eating healthy and exercising.
