Home buying is a stressful process that requires a lot of due diligence on the part of the prospective home owner. Every step along the way requires research and fact checking, all of which will help you make the best and most informed choices possible. This is true for hiring a real estate agent when looking to purchase a new home. Today, let’s look at the questions you should ask real estate agents when determining if they are right to help you buy your new home.
What area do they operate in?
When screening potential real estate agents, you’ll want to know their area of operation. This will help you weed out agents who don’t operate within the neighborhoods you are looking to buy a home in. It can also give you an idea about the price of homes that they sell. Some real estate agents may work with higher end homes that might be out of your price range, if so they might not be suited for you.
How many listings do they have in your desired neighborhood?
Prior to making any decision, to save on time, ask the real estate agent about the number of listings they have in your desired neighborhood. This will give you an idea of how many homes you might be able to view. A real estate agent with more listings might show that they are the go-to agent in the area, showing that they are more in demand, and possible more experienced.
How many homes have they sold in that neighborhood?
You want to work with an agent who knows the neighborhood you are looking to move into. In order to vet a prospective agent, ask about the number of homes they have sold within the area. This will help you gauge their experience and knowledge for the area you desire to live in.
How frequently will you hear from them?
Communication is key for any business. This is the case with home buying. You want to know where you application stands, and if you are able to close on the home of your dreams. It is best to be upfront with a real estate agent at the beginning to learn how frequent they will communicate with you. That way, if the state how often and go back against their word, you can determine their integrity and look for a new agent.
The most important thing is to do your research. There are plenty of websites on the Internet that provide reviews of real estate agents. You want someone who is professional and willing to work with your goals in finding the right home for you.
