Pet Friendly Home Tips

If you have a furry friend, they can add so much joy to your life. That being said, it can often be difficult to adjust your home to a pet! Take a look at these helpful tips for keeping your home clean, but pet-friendly:

  • Choose Your Upholstery Wisely: If you have furniture with fabric in your home, it can often be difficult to keep it clean. Pet hair and dander will stick to any surface it can! Consider avoiding fabrics that are prone to collect hair, such as velvet, velour, corduroy, or mohair.  Opt for smooth fibers and leathers!
  • Install a Flooring with Your Pet in Mind: To avoid messy floors, it is recommended to choose a floor that is easy to clean. Pets can often drag in mud and other grime. Avoid hardwood floors that can be scratched by pet paws easily. Hardwood floors can stain quickly, so opt for laminate flooring, stone, or ceramic tiles. These floors can even keep your pets cool when the weather gets warm!
  • Keep Things Out of Reach: While this may seem like a no-brainer, it is important! Design your home with your pet in mind. Keep art off of reachable shelves if you are worried about a pet knocking something over.
  • A Pet Bed is a Must: One of the ways you can discourage a pet from sleeping on furniture is by getting them a pet bed! This bed should be close to a window for sunbathing, and it can be the perfect nap spot. Choose a lightweight fabric that will be easy to clean.
