5 Mistakes You’re Making When Hiring a Realtor

Let’s face it: hiring a Realtor can be tough. With so many experienced Realtors to choose from, it can be difficult to find the right match for your area, financial situation, and personality. So, how do you choose the one that checks all the boxes? Take a closer look at these five mistakes you could be making when searching for a Realtor in your area and elsewhere.

5 Big Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing a Realtor

Looking to hire a Realtor in the near future? While the process of buying or selling a home can be stressful, Realtors can do their best to take some of that weight off your shoulders! They should add to your experience, not take from it. Experienced Realtors are there to guide you through the process and make it as smooth as possible. Here are 5 mistakes to avoid when choosing a Realtor:

1. You Didn’t Check References

The first thing you should do before you hire a Realtor is check their reviews on Zillow. Or, ask former clients of theirs! That can be the best way to gauge how they treat their clients and how they handle business. A Realtor with many positive reviews is a green flag in this industry!

2. You Hired a Friend

While you should support friends and family in the business, don’t choose a Realtor based on that factor alone. Choose a Realtor that checks all the boxes and can meet your needs! You should work with someone who has experience in the area you want to live in and can put you in the best position to negotiate, if needed.

3. You Didn’t Ask the Right Questions

You should always ask your Realtor questions before you hire them. Ask them about their years in the business, their expertise, their experience in your area, etc. While cheap may sound good, it is not always your best option. If you have specific needs that require experience, it is important to find a Realtor that can fill your needs– regardless of their price. That doesn’t mean you should hire the most expensive Realtor in your area, however! Just be mindful that quality is important.

You Hired Someone that Promises the Highest Price

If you are looking to sell your home, you want to get the highest price you can- that’s understandable! But be mindful that the right Realtor will know the market well and will be able to help you find the right price to list it at.
