Finish Christmas Dinner with these Christmas Desserts Recipes

It wouldn’t be Christmas dinner without something sweet for dessert! Now that we have covered your recipes for Christmas dinner, I am going to talk about in this post some Christmas desserts recipes. These Christmas dessert recipes are easy to follow and are a delicious end to your Christmas dinner. These recipes for Christmas dessert have some traditional staples of Christmas desserts like Figgy Pudding, Fruit Cake and my favorite: English Toffee Bars. So lets dig in and discuss these classic Christmas dessert recipes!

Figgy Pudding Recipe: You all know this Christmas dessert from the song “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and now you can make it for all your guests at Christmas dinner! This recipe for Figgy Pudding will feed about 10 people, and there’s a bunch of work to do so get ready for some baking! Before you get started, take a Pyrex bowl and grease the entire inside including the walls and place in your refrigerator to get it nice and cool. For this recipe for Figgy Pudding, you will need:

  • ½ a cup of Butter
  • ½ a cup of Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 Cup of Sugar
  • 3 Large Egg Yolks
  • 1 Cup of Milk
  • 2 Tablespoons of Rum
  • 1 Peeled, Cored and Chopped Apple
  • 1 Pound of Chopped Dried Figs
  • 1 Grated Peel of a Lemon
  • 1 Grated Peel of an Orange
  • 1 Cup of Chopped Walnuts
  • ½ Teaspoon of Cinnamon
  • ¼ Teaspoon of Ground Cloves
  • ¼ Teaspoon of Ginger
  • 1 ½ Cups of Dried Bread Crumbs
  • 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 3 Large Egg Whites, Beaten

And for the Custard Sauce for your Figgy Pudding, You will need:

  • 2 Cups of Milk
  • 1 Large Egg
  • ¾ Cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon of Water
  • 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Tablespoon of All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon of Butter

1. Make sure to have a Blender and Beater Paddle Ready with a Large Mixing Bowl
2. Start the Blender and add the Butter and Shortening and mix till it gets nice and creamy
3. Keep the Blender on Low and start sifting in the Sugar
4. Add the 3 Egg Yolks, the Milk, and the Rum to the Mixture
5. Add the Grated Lemon and Orange Peel for some Great Flavoring
6. Use a Food Processor to help chop your figs and make it easier on you to chop them
7. Add the Chopped Figs and the Chopped & Peeled Apple to the Mixer
8. Sprinkle in the Cinnamon, Cloves and Ginger Gradually in the Mixer
9. Add the Chopped Walnuts (Use the Food Processor for these as well)
10. Add the Dried Bread Crumbs Slowly to the Mixer
11. The point of adding all these ingredients step by step is to maintain consistency

Now on to the Custard Sauce while the mixture can sit in the Mixing Bowl

1. Take your Whisk and Stiffly beat the Egg Whites into a nice Stiff Stage
2. Fold the Egg Whites into the Mixture with a Spatula as Evenly as possible
3. Take your cold and greased Pyrex Bowl and place it on a Baking Pan
4. Put the Mixture slowly and gently into the Pyrex bowl
5. Add some Boiling water to the Pan that is holding the Bowl
6. Cook in the oven at 325 Degrees for about 4 Hours
7. Serve a piece of the cake and Drizzle the Custard Sauce on the top for a wonderful Christmas dessert for you and your guests!

Fruit Cake Recipe: This ain’t just your regular run of the mill fruit cake that everyone avoids on the holidays. This fruit cake will blow away any other fruit cake you’ve ever had before. To get started on this recipe for Christmas fruit cake, you will need:

  • 1 ¼ Cup of All Purpose Flour
  • 1 ½ Cup of Sugar
  • 1 Cup of Softned Butter
  • 8 oz Package of Softened Cream Cheese
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 ½ Teaspoon of Baking Powder
  • 1 ½ Teaspoon of Rum
  • Dried Cranberries and Cherries (Soak in Rum first for an Excellent Flavor!)
  • Chopped Walnuts
  • 1 Extra Cup of Flour

1. Take your Mixture and Add the 1 ¼ Cup of Flour
2. Add the Sugar, Butter, Baking Powder, Rum, and Cream Cheese all Gradually to the Mixer
3. When the batter is nice and smooth, take the bowl off the mixer
4. Sprinkle the last cup of Flour and Manually mix the remaining Flour
5. Now it’s time to fold in the Walnuts, Cherries and Cranberries in the Bowl
6. The batter should start to really be consistent now and ready to be placed in Cake tins
7. Grease your Cake tins and start pouring in the cake batter
8. Bake in your oven at 325 to 350 degrees and cook for about 45 minutes. You’ll know when they are done if you can place a toothpick in the cake and the toothpick comes out clean
9. Let the Fruit Cakes cool before Serving
10. Watch your Guests Eat this Fruit Cake up instead of trying to return it like other Fruit Cakes!

English Toffee Bars Recipe: The last recipe for Christmas desserts are my favorite for the holidays. These English Toffee Bars are wonderful if you like toffee, they are easy to make and are extremely tasty. For this English Toffee Bars recipe, you will need:

  • 1 Cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1 Cup of Softened Butter
  • 1 Tablespoon of Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 2 Cups of Flour
  • 1 ½ Cups of Chocolate Chips
  • 2 Teaspoons of Butter
  • Crushed Walnuts

1. Mix the brown sugar, butter, vanilla and the egg yolk in a Large Mixing Bowl for a Nice Consistency
2. Sift in the flour right into your bowl to keep it light and fluffy. Mix with a spoon.
3. When the mixture is nice and dry thanks to the flour, put the mixture in a rectangle Pyrex casserole dish
4. Pat down the mixture and place in your oven at 325 degrees for 25 minutes
5. While the base is cooking, it’s time to work on the chocolate layer
6. Use a double boiler to have your chocolate and butter slowly melt
7. When the base is done cooking after 25 minutes, spread the chocolate over the base
8. Sprinkle your crushed walnuts on the top of the toffee bars
9. Let the bars cool for about an hour and cut them into little bars
10. Watch these English Toffee Bars disappear amongst your Christmas dinner guests!
