The holidays are here, and that means you’re probably looking for the perfect gifts for your loved ones. If you know someone who is moving, or recently moved into a new home, there are a number of thoughtful and useful gifts that they would absolutely love to find under their tree this year. I’ve put together a list of great gift ideas for new homeowners, to help make your holiday shopping a bit less hectic.
Plants
Giving a plant as a housewarming gift is a classic idea. A touch of nature can help make a new house feel like a home. If you know the homeowner’s taste, or the style of the home, you can find a tasteful plant that will complement their new abode.
Frames and Artwork
No matter how careful you are during a move, it’s almost a guarantee that at least one picture frame will be damaged. Gifting a new homeowner with a beautiful frame, or even a framed piece of artwork from an artist they enjoy, can put the perfect finishing touch on a room.
Safety Devices
Sure, a fire extinguisher with a big bow on it may not be the most conventional gift, but for a new homeowner, it’s a welcome one. Especially if the homeowner is coming from a rental property, where such things were handled by the landlord. Find out if the homeowner needs any essential safety devices like smoke alarms or radon detectors, and sneak them into their stocking.
Gift Certificates
Gift certificates may be an old standby, but they’re a practical and useful gift for new homeowners. There’s always a million little things new homeowners need for their new place, and a gift certificate to a big box store like Bed Bath and Beyond can come in especially handy.
A New Home Care Package
A fun idea I recommend is creating a new home care package. You can make a gift basket with essential items like scissors, push pins, extension cords, and anything else you think they’ll need and appreciate. These “care packages” are a tremendous help for new homeowners as they’re settling in, and are a thoughtful way to show you care.
