Groundhog Day Reveals Six More Weeks of Winter

If you haven’t heard yet, according to America’s favorite weather animal Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog, there will be six more weeks of winter. This morning at 7:30 a.m. in Punxsutawney, PA Phil decreed, through the voices of top-hat wearing men, “a perfect clear shadow of me, six more weeks of winter it shall be.” The annual ritual tends to draw quite a crowd; a crowd that chants “Phil, Phil, Phil!” The tradition originates in a German legend that stated when a furry rodent sees his shadow on February 2nd, winter will continue. And if not, there will be an early spring. There are records dating back to 1887 and more winter has been predicted 102 times while spring has only been forecasted to come early 18 times. One of those 18 times includes last year. Phil sounds pretty pessimistic to me.
