Ask anyone who owns pets, and they’ll tell you that their furry friends are a beloved member of the family. But selling a home in Encinitas that has pets can present some unique challenges for the seller. Not everyone is an animal lover, and many people have pet-related allergies that could be a deal-breaker if your home is unprepared.
If you’re a pet owner who is planning to sell your home in Encinitas, here are some tips to make sure potential buyers love your house as much as your pets do.
1. Deep Clean
Prior to putting your house on the market, do a thorough deep cleaning. Vacuum behind and below couches, chairs, beds, closets, and everywhere your four-legged friends are allowed. Mop hardwood or tile floors, and consider renting or purchasing a carpet cleaner. If you have multiple pets, you may even want to hire a professional cleaning service that specializes in pets. Pet hair has a way of getting everywhere, and making sure that your home is deep cleaned will make it look and smell much fresher.
2. Prepare for Surprise Showings
When your house is on the market, you will hopefully be having many interested buyers coming to see the home. Now that the home has been deep cleaned, it will be much easier to clean up in a hurry. Keep blankets on any furniture that your pet lays on, and toss them in the laundry when you’re getting ready for a showing to keep the surfaces pristine. Also keep some window cleaner handy, in case your pets cause any smudges. If you have cats, consider using disposable litter trays when you are expecting people to come see the house. This will allow you to toss them in the garbage quickly, rather than having to clean out and replace your cat’s litter.
You should also get some large plastic bins to store all your pet toys and bowls in during showings. This will de-clutter your home, and make a better first impression on potential buyers.
3. Curb (Appeal) your Dog
Speaking of first impressions, the outside of your home will be the first thing prospective buyers see. You want to make sure that it’s a good first impression, by making sure your home’s curb appeal is up to snuff. Remove any sticks, toys, or droppings your pet may have left on the lawn. Fill in any holes they may have created, and make sure your lawn doesn’t look like a puppy playground.
These tips should help you to sell your home faster, whether the buyer is an animal lover or not!
