7 Ways to Make Your Home Smell Like Fall
- Real Estate Tips
- autumn, fall
- September 1, 2020
That smell is unmistakable, and as the air turns crisp, the time has come to get those pumpkin spice-flavored aromas flowing in your house. With many already thinking ahead and preparing for the holidays, you can use just a few natural ingredients to instantly make your home smell like autumn. If you want to know how to bring the smell of fall indoors, here are seven easy ways to make it happen!
Simmer Pots
Let’s start with probably one of the easiest ways to fill your home with fall aromas, a simmer pot. For a refreshing fall scent, boil lemon peels, orange peels, 2 bay leaves, 3 cinnamon sticks, and 2 tablespoons of whole cloves. If you want a cinnamon apple scent, boil some cinnamon sticks, apple peels, orange rinds, and whole cloves.
Quick Tip: Customize and experiment with other ingredients like star anise, nutmeg, apple slices, or whatever spices you love. Just remember to add water to the pot as the day goes on.
Essential Oil Diffusers
Another way of capturing that musk of fall is using essential oils. Clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, orange–use these oils in your diffuser and you can almost see the orange leaves swirling around you. If you’re not really a fan of these stereotypical “fall” oils, try Crisp Autumn Night, which also smells quite amazing.
Try This: Mix 3 drops of cinnamon, 2 drops of clove and orange, plus 1 drop of cedarwood to get the epitome or autumn in your home.
Make a Fire Starter
If you have a fireplace, make an aromatic fire starter! Fill a coffee filter with dried orange and apple peels, cloves, cinnamon sticks, sprigs of rosemary, and lavender. Sew the filter shut using some thread and a needle and simply burn the filter when you start a fire! Enjoy the cozy scents of fall!
Scented Candles (DIY Style)
Why buy when you can go DIY? Making your own candles is fun and simple, just take soy wax and fragrance oils (cedarwood, pumpkin spice, etc.) and see what you can come up with. These homemade candles also make outstanding decorations as well as great gifts.

Cinnamon Scented Pinecones
Cinnamon is a warm scent that permeates the fall season. Make some easy cinnamon scented pinecones in just a few steps! Bake some pinecones, then once cool throw them in a plastic bag with drops of cinnamon oil. Let the pinecones sit in the bag for at least one week and you will have made your own scented décor! You can display the pinecones around your home or hang them on a garland.
Cleaning Products with Fall Scents
Autumn is the perfect time to prepare for winter cleaning, but why not use some fall-inspired scents instead? Visit your local grocery store or go online to choose cleaners, detergents, and soaps with fragrances such as:
- Pumpkin spice
- Cranberry
- Apple cider
You can find many other fragrances out there mixing the aromas of nature with hints of sweetness to transform cleaning into a whole other experience.
Rosemary Wreaths
Rosemary has an evergreen, energizing scent that is aromatic. Used in a lot of seasonal dishes, your home could smell like fall with some rosemary wreaths. Tie sprigs of rosemary together using twine and form a wreath. You can hang these lovely scented ornaments around your home to extend the aroma.
Whether you’ll be out and about doing family friendly activities, or just spending a quiet evening at home drinking your favorite seasonal tea, these seven, easy tips can help you bring that cozy feeling for this time of year.
