Cleaning Tips Every Pet Owner Should Know

Having a pet comes with a lot of responsibility. Aside from making sure your furry friend gets all the care they require, you also need to ensure your home remains spotless. Pets are prone to creating messes, and their hair can get in everything–furniture, clothes, and the floor!

But with a few helpful cleaning tips, you could easily keep up on tidiness and maintain a spotless home.

Controlling Animal Hair

One of the best cleaning tips is to keep pet hair under control. If your pet has a favorite lounging spot, cover it with a towel or small blanket. Then when it’s laundry time, shake it outside to get most of the hair out before washing.

When it comes to vacuuming, ensure you use the proper setting for your rug or carpet height. Vacuum in different directions to get into every last crevice. If you believe prevention is better than cure, the Dyson Groom is a grooming tool that allows you to vacuum your dog to stop hair at the source!

To take cleaning one step further, invest in a few cleaning tools to make the hair removal process easier:

Clean Muddy Paws at the Door

Rather than let your dog drag in dirt and mud, keep a towel and shallow tray with water by the door. After a walk or a romp in the dog park, wipe their paws to clean any debris from their feet. This way you avoid having to mop more than necessary and your dog gets to avoid a bath.

Use Baking Soda

Baking soda is a wonderful deodorizer! Next time you wash your pets’ bed, toys, or towels, ensure you add half a cup of baking soda directly to the water in addition to your detergent. The baking soda will help neutralize any bad odors and disinfect any germs.

After you dry your pet items, don’t forget to clean the lint trap. Often, after a load of pet items have been dried, the lint trip is full of pet hair!

Deep Clean Your Pet Toys and Collars

Don’t forget about your pet collars and toys! They need washing too, but they’re often forgotten.

To clean the collar, scrub it with a brush in warm soapy water mixed with baking soda. Rinse it and then let it soak in another small dish with hot water and baking soda for 30 minutes. For toys or plastic chews, throw them in the dishwasher or gently scrub them with warm soapy water before letting them soak in hot water mixed with baking soda.

Once the toys and collars are done soaking, rinse with cold water and air dry them.
